Eremophilas comprise a large genus of colourful shrubs suited to hot dry situations. Most come from desert regions, ie areas receiving with an annual rainfall of less than 250mm. They are well suited to gardens in the drier western region of Melbourne, and nearby towns including Sunbury, Melton and Bacchus Marsh. They thrive in hot, dry sunny situations. There are more than 200 species with numerous varieties. Most are small to medium shrubs or groundcovers, with only a few species growing large enough to be considered trees. They are noted for their free flowering and drought hardiness. |
